Three Ring Circus Schooling Show
Frequently Asked Questions

Last Revised: 05/03/2022

This is a one day show; entries are limited!  Pre-entry is required for dressage, and strongly encouraged for hunter/jumpers to guarantee your spot!

Some things to know:

Crossrail and 2’ jumpers will be run first round only; no jump off.

You may not canter out of the ring in hunters or jumpers or you will be automatically eliminated.  Your horse should walk out of the ring.

Q: If two people are riding the same horse, do they need to fill out two entry forms?

A: Yes, it is one rider/horse combo per form but you don’t have to fill out everything again – just the new rider’s information and make it clear which horse they are riding.  Please be sure they also read the liability release on page two and sign the form.  You will only need to pay the office fee once as it is one office fee per horse.

Q: Who can enter the Mini Hunter Derbies?

A: The Mini Hunter Derbies are open to everyone, but we ask that competitors show good sportsmanship and share in the good-natured, fun spirit of this schooling show in making their entries.  These classes are intended to give amateurs a chance to compete in an exciting derby format in a low pressure setting.  Professionals and experienced exhibitors are kindly requested to use these classes as a courtesy round if they wish to enter, and allow less experienced competitors the chance to win a ribbon and prize.  Please specify on your entry form if you will be riding as a courtesy round.  You will still be scored on your round, but your score will be excluded in determining the winning order of the class.

Q: Which Gambler's Choice class should I enter?

A: We recommend that you enter the Gambler's Choice class at the same level as the regular classes in which you are showing, or no more than one height lower than the height at which you are showing.  This is not a rule, but we make this suggestion as a courtesy to your fellow riders, and so the good-natured, fun spirit of the show may be enjoyed by everyone.

Q: Can more than one rider use the same horse on a team for the Team Award?

A: No.  Teams should be made up of 3-4 different horse/rider combos, meaning no horse or rider counts twice.

Q: What if various team members are competing in more than one discipline?

A: We will take the highest team member's score in each discipline if possible, unless one team member delivers the highest score in more than one discipline.  In that case, we will take the higher of that team member's two scores, and we will take your second highest team member's score in the other discipline.

Q: How do I prove my horse’s EHV vaccination?

A: Request a vaccine letter or receipt from your veterinarian, or provide the lot #, date given, and expiration date of your vaccine.

Q: In the jumpers, what is Table II, Sec. 1?

A: This means you ride one round, with no jump off.  Scores will be based on number of faults for rails down and time in which the course is completed.

Q: Which classes count for champion/reserve champion in the W/T, W/T/C, poles and crossrails classes?

A: Your score from your Walk-Trot Equitation on the Flat class will be added to your scores from the Walk-Trot Equitation Over Poles classes to determine champion and reserve champion.  Your score from your Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation on the Flat class will be added to your scores from the Crossrails classes to determine champion and reserve champion.

Q:  I want to reserve a stall but am undecided on which classes I would like to enter - can I reserve a stall and register for classes later?

A: Yes; however, you will still need to review and sign the Liability Release Agreement found on page two of the Entry Form.  All horses must have a current negative Coggins (within 1 year) and proof of EHV vaccination (within 6 months).  First paid, first stalled (sorry, no exceptions).

Stalls are non-refundable unless you are put on a wait list and do not get a stall.

Q:  How do I know if I didn’t get a stall?

A:  We will notify you if the stalls are full and put you on a wait list.

Q:  Do I need a different show number if I’m showing multiple disciplines (dressage, hunter and/or jumper) classes?

A:  No, the number is assigned to the horse (not the rider), so the number will stay with the horse regardless of which classes entered.

Q:  Can I enter more than one discipline?

A:  Yes.  The rings run simultaneously, so it just takes a little communication.  The gate people are very good at keeping track if you let them know ahead of time.

For example, if you are riding dressage and are entering hunter classes and believe the times may conflict, you should go see the hunter gate person and let them know which hunter class(es) you entered and let them know your dressage times.  Then the gate person can make a note so they can wait for you in the hunter ring, if necessary.

Q:  What is appropriate show attire for the Three Ring Circus Schooling Show?

A:  All competitors must wear an approved helmet and appropriate riding boots when mounted.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  The rest is up to the rider – basically, neat and tidy, presenting yourself well.

Q:  How do I scratch from a hunter and/or jumper class?

A:  You will need to complete and submit an “Add/Scratch” form found in the show office.  The original will stay with the show office and you will need to take the copy to the ring gate person.  No refunds will be made after your class has begun.

      No refunds for dressage classes.

Q:  What if it rains?

A:  The show will continue and only be stopped if the weather becomes dangerous.

Q:  Can I bring a horse and not show him/her?

A:  Yes, there is a $10.00 insurance fee for the day plus office fee.  You will still need to provide negative Coggins (within 1 year) and proof of EHV vaccination (within 6 months).
